Kidnapping
2007-12-09 16:48:00

Kidnapping is crime of taking away of a person by force, threat, or deceit, with intent to cause him or her to be detained against his or her will. Kidnapping may be done for ransom, political, or other purposes.

Tips:

 ·Stay calm, and adopt proper actions according to the situation. Do not engage the criminals at the early stage of the incident when the situation is not clear.
 ·Try to work out your location. If you are blind-folded, try to count the time and distance of the car journey. Keep in mind the approximate direction and the number of corner-turns.
 ·Preserve your energy and mental strength, and get prepared for long-term dealing with the kidnappers. Never lose faith in being rescued.
 ·Examine the situation, try to send out messages and leave marks. Try to deal with the kidnapers tactically without getting hurt. When allowed to talk to your family members on the phone, try to imply them your location, situation, and information about the kidnappers.
 ·Try to find excuses, such as going to toilet, seeking for drinks and heaters, to get away from the kidnappers.
 ·Relatives of the hostage should never hesitate to report to the police once the kidnapping takes place.
The following information should be provided: the hostage’s age, appearance, habits, personal belongings, cell-phone number, recent photos; suspicious people, phone calls or automobiles before and after the incidence; the way in which the kidnappers contact the victim’s family members, the kidnappers’ phone number and their demands.
 ·Relatives of the hostage should keep in touch with the suspects under the police’s instruction; assist the police in compliance with the rescue plan. Do not take action on your own.

Suggestions:

 ·Relatives of the hostage should report to the police in a confidential way.
 ·Both the hostage and the relatives should deal with the suspects tactically to avoid provoking them.
