Severe acute aspiratory syndrome (SARS) is a respiratory disease in humans which is caused by the SARS coronavirus.
Symptoms: initial symptoms are flu like and may include fever, myalgia, lethargy, gastrointestinal symptoms, cough, sore throat and other non-specific symptoms. The only symptom that is common to all patients appears to be a fever above 38 °C (100.4 °F). Shortness of breath may occur later. About 10%-20% of cases require mechanical ventilation.
Tips:
·When the above-mentioned symptoms appear, patients should be treated in quarantine in the hospital.
·Do not stay for a long time in crowded places with poor ventilation.
·Keep good ventilation at home and in offices.
Suggestions:
·Latent period of SARS is usually 14 days.
·Individuals who have close contact with SARS patients should report to the local disease prevention and control institutes, and take temperature on regular basis.
·Disinfect your home whenever necessary.
·Do not spit.
·Do not share towels or toothbrushes and other daily necessities with others.
