An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust that creates seismic waves.
Tips:
·When in single-storey house, you should hold an object overhead and run out of the house immediately. When it is too late to run outside, hide yourself under desks, beds or any other solid furniture.
·When in multi-storey building, you should take temporary shelter in the washroom or other narrow-span room, or in the triangular space at the foot of or in corners of bearing walls. Do not use the elevator or jump off the building.
·When in schools, shopping malls, concert halls or other public places, you should take shelter under desks, chairs or other solid objects with your head under arms and eyes closed. Evacuate in order when the earthquake is over.
·When in the street, you should cover your head with your hands, run quickly to the open ground, and stay away from high-rise buildings, overpasses, and high-voltage power lines.
·When in countryside, you should keep away from the foot of mountains and steep cliffs in case of falling rocks and landslides.
·When driving, you should avoid overpasses, steep cliffs, and power line poles. Park your car in the open ground immediately.
When buried under debris, you should stay calm and try to save yourself.
·Cover your mouth and nose with wet towel or cloth to prevent suffocation by dust.
·Clean the dust on your face and remove the objects on your body with your hands if you can.
·Take advantage of objects beside you to help supporting the weights on your body and preventing further collapse.
·Expand your space and keep enough air.
·When you could not escape, reserve your strength and wait for rescue. Do not shout aimlessly. When someone gets close to you, tap the walls or iron pipes with bricks or hard objects to send signals.
Suggestions:
·Stay away from fire and water when taking shelter and escape along the outside of the wall.
·Do not be anxious to return home when the earthquake is just over to avoid aftershock.
·Pay attention to the updated news released by the government, do not believe in rumors or hearsay.
